Dan Bardell sends Everton budget warning after new Philogene updates

Dan Bardell doesn’t believe that Everton need to sign Jaden Philogene from Hull City after the transfer business they have already completed.

BBC Sport has reported (4 July) that Ipswich and West Ham are set to challenge the Toffees to the English youth international.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested (6 July) that all three sides are ready to meet the conditions asked for by Hull this summer.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has warned Everton off the signing considering the options they already have available.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “Everton have just signed a natural winger in Jack Harrison and have Ndiaye coming in potentially as a wide player.

“I’m not sure that Everton would have the finances to spend on Philogene this summer. I think they are better off focusing on more pressing areas.

“Considering they may lose players like Branthwaite or Calvert-Lewin, they would need the budget to replace them.

“I wouldn’t say that signing a winger is a priority for Everton, they have other positions they need to fill sooner.“

After signing Ndiaye and Harrison already in the transfer window, the Toffees do have good depth in attacking areas ahead of next season.

Dwight McNeil was a top performer at Goodison Park last campaign and will be hopeful to build on that positivity moving forward.

Dyche sometimes had to utilise James Garner as a wide midfielder and the manager will hope that he can avoid that next year.

Philogene would be a positive signing there is no doubt and represents the change in strategy that the Toffees are looking to follow.

The Englishman has great technical ability on the ball as well as plenty of pace which would add a point of difference to the Everton squad.

Given the options already available, there wouldn’t be any guarantees for regular first-team football from the beginning of the season.

This could see Philogene opt to make a move to Ipswich or West Ham this summer instead of Goodison Park.
