Ipswich Town are leading Everton in the race for Jaden Philogene but a summer transfer to Manchester United is unlikely, according to Hull Live.

The outlet reported on its website on Sunday (7 July) that sources close to talks around the winger’s future have insisted that links with a move to Old Trafford are wide of the mark at this stage.

Alongside the Toffees and the Tractor Boys, Crystal Palace also have an active interest in the former Aston Villa man who Hull are ready to sell once their valuation has been met by one of the clubs.

Ipswich are locked in talks with the Tigers over a double transfer which would see Jacob Greaves also move to Portman Road and there is a belief that an agreement could be reached as soon as next week.

Should a deal be agreed, it is understood that it will be significantly higher than the reported £33.8million price tag that he been mooted in some reports [Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, 4 July].

Will Everton secure Hull City star Jaden Philogene amid transfer speculation?

While Everton will have been boosted by the news that Manchester United are not in the race to sign Philogene this summer, it will have come as a blow to hear that Ipswich seem to be closing in on a deal.

The winger would have brought a different dimension to Sean Dyche’s side next term as he possesses a skillset which is not like any of the current wide options in the Goodison Park changing room, with real flair and technical ability.

There is still a chance that the Toffees could win the race for his signature if no contract has yet been signed at Portman Road, but Kevin Thelwell and his recruitment team will have to move quickly to get their proposal in.

Hopefully, either Hull or Philogene himself will have a late change of heart to help the Blues get their man this summer.

Everton know all too well how quickly things can change in the transfer window after their experience with Arnaut Danjuma a few years ago.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could be set to command a fee of £100million for Jarrad Branthwaite next summer
