'Defender's Nightmare' - Pundit backs Tottenham to reach new level with move for 'Pacy' attacker

Tottenham will be looking to take Ange Postecglou’s side to the “next level” with the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, according to Alan Hutton.

The German winger has been told he can leave the Bundesliga club this summer despite playing a key role in their run to the Champions League final where they were beaten by Real Madrid at Wembley [HITC, 16 July].

Adeyemi’s representatives have held talks with several Premier League clubs including Spurs, Chelsea, West Ham United and Newcastle United over the prospect of a potential move to the Premier League.

Although the Lilywhites’ interest will only lead to a genuine transfer offer if the financial terms of the deal are right, Hutton believes the 22-year-old has the right qualities to seamlessly slip into Postecoglou’s side this summer.

“I think so,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“I can keep saying the words ‘he’s a defender’s nightmare’ but that’s what he is. He’d give a fullback a sleepless night.

“He’s very direct, pacey, can go both ways and really gets the fans excited so I’m not surprised this is what they’re looking at.

“The style of football that Tottenham play, that’s what it’s like. It’s all action and all gungho to really get at the opposition and score as many goals as you want so it doesn’t really surprise me.

“Again, it will come down to costs, fees and wages and things like that and if they can get a deal done.

“But look, Tottenham are a massive club and you can tell by the names that they’re going for that they’re really looking to take it to the next level so the next few weeks are going to be really interesting.”

Will Tottenham and Daniel Levy sign Karim Adeyemi in the summer transfer window?

Spurs already have several wide options in their squad competing for a starting role, so players like Bryan Gil who are understood to be surplus to requirements will have to be moved on before any further additions are made.

But once those wages are off of the books, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Lilywhites submit an official proposal for Adeyemi as he seems to be the perfect fit to play in Postecoglou’s system.

His goalscoring record will leave something to be desired as he only managed five goals in 34 appearances last season, but like Timo Werner, there is so much more to his game than just his end product.

Hopefully, Spurs will do what they can to beat their Premier League rivals to his signature. Postecoglou’s project will be appealing to the forward and the opportunity to play regularly may sway him towards a move to North London.
