Dele Alli joins Everton pre-season training - report

Everton have begun their pre-season training regime with out-of-contract midfielder Dele Alli taking part, according to Liverpool World.

Liverpool World reported on their website (10 July) that the 28-year-old was in attendance at Finch Farm as the Toffees squad returned to training, despite his contract with the club expiring on 30 June.

Dele is still on the road back for injury having not played in over 14 months after undergoing hip surgery during his loan spell at Besiktas in April 2023, and is continuing his rehabilitation with the Blues.

Could Dele Alli earn new Everton contract?

Everton allowing Dele the freedom of Finch Farm to continue his rehabilitation is a kind move on the club’s behalf, showing they’re willing to look after a player whose time has been less than successful.

The 28-year-old has made just 13 Toffees appearances across three seasons – one of which was spent away at Besiktas – and he’s also yet to score a goal since his January 2022 switch from Tottenham.

Missing over a year’s worth of football is hardly helpful when trying to earn a new contract, and the chances seem next-to-none that Dele will be seen in the club’s blue shirt again.

It remains to be seen just how long it will be before Dele is fit and ready to return to first-team action regardless of whichever level that comes at, but it’s doubtful that return will come at Goodison Park.

But there is certainly a duty of care involved from the club’s side when it comes to helping him get fit, so it is a credit that they are helping him to do exactly that.
