Rangers defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo can return to training at the earliest by mid-March, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that if the Ibrox outfit are to re-sign him, they will be looking at multiple physical metrics during his rehab and then make a decision.
Philippe Clement confirmed on 22 November that the 22-year-old Dutch defender will be out for the long term.
Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “All we know is he’s had surgery and based on the timeline of four to six months, it sounds significant.
“My guess would be a ligament or meniscus repair.
“If that timeline holds, I’d expect him back in training earliest around the three-and-a-half month mark from the surgery in late November so mid-March is the earliest.
“If Rangers do re-sign him, they’ll be assessing all the key physical metrics as he rehabs and then as he gets back to the pitch, they’ll get more into sport-specific ones.“
Neraysho Kasanwirjo has shown tremendous promise at Rangers
Signed on loan from Feyenoord, Kasanwirjo had hit the ground running in Glasgow and there was a legitimate chance of him usurping James Tavernier as the main right-back.
His versatility meant he could even fill in at centre-back and he’s played at left-back for the Netherlands Under-21s side as well.
It remains to be seen how well he rehabs and whether or not Gers decide to sign him permanently in the summer.
In other Rangers news, the club are now looking to sign a Chelsea player in January with the club open to offers for him.
