Doctor urges Tottenham to pay lower fee as update emerges in pursuit of Chelsea defender

Tottenham must pay a lower fee than what Chelsea value Trevoh Chalobah at due to his injury issues, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the centre-back is at a higher risk of re-injury for up to a year following his hamstring setback this past season.

This comes after journalist Dean Jones told Give Me Sport (28 May) that Spurs are considering signing the 24-year-old to bolster their defensive depth.

Discussing the state of play with Chalobah exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

“Chalobah missed the majority of the season due to injury as he was ruled out for six months.

The injury was a recurrence of a hamstring injury and took longer than anticipated to return.

Unfortunately, previous muscular injury is the greatest predictor of future muscle injury so it is something that might recur and hamstring injuries are notorious for reinjury.

High-level studies show nearly two times the risk for up to a year following a hamstring strain.

“IIt’s hard to say if that will put teams off from signing him but it very well could be baked into a lower transfer fee and I would urge any interested club to keep that in mind.

Tottenham must be careful before proceeding with Trevoh Chalobah deal

Chalobah could be a good signing for Spurs due to his versatility and the fact at 24 he is still yet to reach the peak of his game.

However, he did not kick a ball in anger until February this season due to a hamstring injury sustained in training back in August 2023..

It means that Spurs, or indeed any suitors, will have to ponder whether a big fee is justifiable considering the risk of a reoccurrence.
