Everton have bolstered their recruitment department with the addition of former FC Toronto scout Colin Rooney, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The Athletic reported via their website on 10 October that Rooney is in line to take Nathan Fisher’s place as a European scout for the club following the latter’s promotion to head of emerging talent.

According to the outlet, the scout will primarily track players in Spain, Portugal and Italy.

Rooney, meanwhile, has confirmed that he has joined Everton as a senior international scout on LinkedIn.

Colin Rooney is a smart addition to Everton’s recruitment department

Rooney boasts over a decade of experience as a scout, initially joining Turkish club Galatasaray in 2012.

He was the head of scouting for MLS and Liga MX for the Istanbul-based club for almost two years before joining FC Toronto.

The MLS club tasked Rooney with building their network in Central America before putting him in charge of their scouting operations in Europe.

Just this year, Toronto imported five players, including former Newcastle midfielder Matty Longstaff, from Europe.

Rooney’s experience in Europe and North America will, therefore, stand him in good stead at Everton.

Everton’s recruitment department has grown since Dan Purdy returned as scouting and operations manager in 2022.

With The Friedkin Group pushing forward with their plan to buy the club from Farhad Moshiri, the future might be bright for the club.

The Goodison Park outfit have struggled in recent years not least because of FSR violations, but are hopeful of things improving moving forward.

In other Everton news, the club are in no rush to make major additions in January.
