Everton expect to sell another star after Amadou Onana already - report

Everton still expect to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer despite agreeing a deal for Amadou Onana to join Aston Villa, according to The Boot Room.

The online news outlet reports that the striker has rejected a new deal at Goodison Park and wants to leave [Graeme Bailey, 4 July] with Newcastle among the interested parties despite talks collapsing earlier this summer over personal terms [The Athletic, 29 June].

West Ham, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United have also assessed a deal for the 27-year-old but no contact has been made with the Toffees yet, although they expect a deal to happen during the transfer window as he is in the final 12 months of his contract.

Everton to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer

Sean Dyche made it his mission last season to nurse Calvert-Lewin back to full health and make him someone that could be relied upon again, and he succeeded.

The 27-year-old featured in 38 games throughout the campaign, netting eight goals, but the boss stuck with him during a 23-plus game barren spell in front of goal.

So for Calvert-Lewin to make the decision that he doesn’t want to stick around at Goodison Park and repay some of that loyalty is disappointing, but it can’t be much of a surprise.

Iliman Ndiaye has already joined the club and with Beto and Youssef Chermiti also available for the manager to pick from, Calvert-Lewin’s absence won’t be as greatly missed as it may have been in the past.

If the club can secure a good fee for him then the hope is that it will be reinvested back into the squad, both in attack and other areas, and the team can benefit.

In other Everton news, the club are set to bid for a new attacker in days according to Fabrizio Romano.
