Everton may move to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja on deadline day should Dominic Calvert-Lewin leave, according to Ben Jacobs.

The Give Me Sport journalist took to X on 30 August to claim that Chelsea are looking to sign the English striker from Toffees before the window shuts and have him among their options.

Newcastle failed in their approach to sign the 27-year-old and his Goodison Park exit, could see moves being made for Broja.

Via X, Jacobs wrote: “Sean Dyche confirms Everton are yet to receive new offers for striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Newcastle had a failed approach earlier in the window.

“DCL one of the options Chelsea have discussed if they don’t get Victor Osimhen.

“EFC could move for Armando Broja, but only if DCL leaves.”

Everton must avoid signing Armando Broja at all costs

The Toffees should avoid signing Broja at all costs due to the potential for exacerbating their current squad instability.

The 22-year-old, despite his potential, brings uncertainty with his recent injury history, which could further strain Everton’s already thin striker options.

Calvert-Lewin, on the other hand, represents not just a familiar face but a proven goal scorer in the Premier League when fit.

His departure would not only create a void in leadership and fan connection but also in tactical flexibility, given his ability to play across the front line.

Retaining the England international is crucial for the Toffees’ stability and morale, especially under Sean Dyche, who has expressed a clear preference for keeping him.

The financial implications of losing the Englishman for free next year might seem daunting, but the immediate impact on team cohesion and performance could be far more detrimental than any transfer fee for Broja.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have been given the green signal as talks have been held for a new £12.7m transfer.
