Everton strike agreement with Roma for Goodison Park event - report

Everton and Roma are set to meet in a pre-season friendly at Goodison Park, according to Corriere dello Sport.

As reported by the Italian newspaper (page four, 7 July), a match has been organised between the two clubs. Roma and Everton are scheduled to meet on 10 August at 4:00 pm.

The clash will take place on the final day of Roma’s pre-season visit to England. The Serie A side are set to arrive in the country on 4 August.

This agreement comes with all signs pointing toward the Friedkin Group – who own Roma – completing a takeover at Goodison Park.

There looks set to be a lot of change at Everton in the coming years. The Friedkin Group are seemingly close to completing a takeover while a new stadium is also being built.

After years of constant relegation dogfights, the Toffees will be optimistic about brighter days ahead at the club.

And it appears as if this match with Roma might end up acting as something of a welcome party for the Friedkins at Goodison Park.

This will be a rare occasion where the football on the pitch will not be the primary focus for anyone in attendance at the match.

Instead, supporters will be clamouring to get a glimpse of their prospective new owners. In fact, by that point, the Friedkins might have already completed their takeover.
