Rangers boss Philippe Clement has been touted as a candidate to become Anderlecht’s new manager, Nordin Jbari has suggested.

The former Belgium international mentioned his former Club Brugge teammate as an “interesting option” to replace Brian Roemer at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.

Clement, who recently signed a new Gers contract until 2028, previously managed Brugge between 2019 and 2022, and it would be difficult for their rivals Anderlecht to pry the 50-year-old from Ibrox.

In quotes reported by the Daily Record (24 September), Jbari said: “Philippe Clement likes to play modern, attacking football.

“He would be a very interesting option, even though he used to play for and manage Club Brugge.

“There’s obviously a financial aspect to it too because he’s at Rangers, and whether he would even consider a move to Anderlecht.”

Rangers must do all they can to keep hold of Philippe Clement

Despite the Gers’ below-par start to the new season, the Belgian signing a new four-year contract at Ibrox shows that both he and the club are committed to a long-term project in light blue.

Delivering the Scottish League Cup weeks after taking the job gave Clement the best possible start, and though his side fell short in both the Premiership and Scottish Cup, the progress made was clear.

The club has been far from stable both on and off the field since Clement’s arrival at Ibrox, but he has remained a steady hand on the tiller throughout and has now been able to shape a squad in his image.

Given the funds to sign 11 new faces this summer while moving on several long-serving players, it’s clear that the current hierarchy is fully behind what Clement is trying to build at Ibrox.

Anderlecht sniffing around will not only test Clement’s loyalty to Club Brugge, but also his commitment to Rangers, and given what he’s shown so far, fans shouldn’t be too worried about him jumping ship.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson has told the Gers to make “radical” changes with a damning statement to the board.
