RC Lens could accept a loan offer for Wolves top target Kevin Danso in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (23 December) that Wolves are leading the race for Danso, 26, ahead of the new year.

Talks have been held internally at Wolves over a deal, which could be an initial loan with an obligation to buy becoming active if the club remain in the Premier League.

Lens would be open to that deal as they want to relieve themselves of Danso’s wage, and would also bank a loan fee to balance the books.

Sources say the Austria international is keen on a return to the Premier League after his previous spell with Southampton in the 2019-20 campaign.

He is attracting other interest from clubs in England and abroad but Wolves are currently leading the pack with just days to go until the transfer window opens.

Danso has earned rave reviews with his performances in France since joining Lens from Augsburg in 2021.

His contract runs until 2027 after the 26-year-old penned his last extension in 2023.

Wolves are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements after selling Max Kilman in the most recent summer transfer window.

Football Insider revealed last week (19 December) that the Molineux outfit will prioritise defensive signings in the January transfer window as they bid to avoid relegation.

Yerson Mosquera, Bastien Meupiyou and Santiago Bueno are all currently injured, leaving Toti Gomes and Craig Dawson as the only fit senior centre-backs.

Wolves

Wolves kept a rare clean sheet in their 3-0 victory over Leicester on Sunday (22 December) and now sit two points from safety.

They face Man United and Tottenham before the transfer window opens on 1 January.
