Fabrizio Romano shares what he knows about Everton and 'Fantastic' manager linked with Goodison

Everton are yet to approach out-of-work manager Maurizio Sarri despite the pressure growing on Sean Dyche, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported in his Daily Briefing (26 September) that despite Sarri being a “fantastic” manager for any club to be linked with, the Toffees have not approached or held any talks with him.

Sarri has been mooted as a possible replacement for Dyche in the wake of Dan Friedkin’s takeover at Goodison Park [Corriere dello Sport, 25 September], with the incumbent Blues boss facing the sack after a winless start to the season.

Romano said: “Despite being out of work for 18 months, Maurizio Sarri remains a fantastic manager.

“I’m sure he’s keeping himself updated, always on point, always active. He’s not kind of manager who leaves it all when he’s not working.

“About Everton, I’ve no confirmation of that story so far. No approaches, no talks.”

Sean Dyche to Maurizio Sarri would be massive change for Everton

If you were to randomly pick two managers’ names out of a hat and had to contrast their respective styles of football, you’d struggle to find two whose philosophies differ more than Dyche and Sarri.

For the squad the Toffees currently have their disposal – one which has routinely battled against Premier League relegation – Sarri’s possession-focused, retention-imperative style of play would simply not fly.

Therefore, despite calls for Dyche’s sacking just five (winless) games into the new Premier League season, bringing in Sarri immediately likely wouldn’t bring much of an uptick in form on the pitch.

Friedkin, therefore, would instead be better suited waiting until the summer of 2025 to hire a manager like Sarri, and the sea-change of playing style and squad composition this would inevitably bring.

For now though, having been warned against disposing of Dyche too quickly, the soon-to-be Blues owner should give all the support he can to Dyche, who has shown previously that regardless of how many chips are down, he’s got what it takes to keep the Toffees in the top-flight.

In other Everton news, a club legend has given his own sack warning to Dyche after what he said about Goodison Park’s crowd.
