Friedkin stance on Dyche & Southgate emerges with Everton review planned - report

Sean Dyche’s future at Everton will be reviewed by the Friedkin Group, according to TEAMtalk.

The news outlet reported online (24 September) that the Friedkin Group are planning to undergo the review when they complete a takeover at Goodison Park.

Everton confirmed via the club’s official website on Monday (23 September) that a deal has been agreed upon between Farhad Moshiri and Dan Friedkin, and the takeover could be ratified by the Premier League in the next six to eight weeks (via the Guardian, 23 September).

According to Give Me Sport (23 September), Friedkin has identified Gareth Southgate as a potential successor to Dyche. However, TEAMtalk reports that those suggestions are premature, with the Friedkin Group planning to look at “multiple options”.

Dyche has done a phenomenal job with the Toffees. Considering everything the club has been through off the field, keeping them in the Premier League is an incredible achievement.

Therefore, the ex-Burnley boss deserves plenty of respect, and despite his poor start to the season, he has earned the opportunity to turn things around.

With a new regime behind him, Dyche could flourish, just as he did at Burnley. However, there is also every chance that the Friedkin Group might want to find a so-called ‘bigger name’.

However, whether or not Southgate is that ‘big-name’ is debatable. The 54-year-old achieved plenty as manager of England and deserves admiration and recognition for those achievements.

However, it has been a long time since he managed at club level, which is a completely different prospect altogether to international football.

Therefore, he might not adapt as well as Friedkin might like.

As a result, the American must therefore ensure he thinks carefully about this decision.
