Gabriel Jesus: Significant update on Newcastle interest today

Newcastle United are unlikely to sign Gabriel Jesus despite uncertainty about the future of Alexander Isak at St James’ Park.

This is according to former Man United, Tottenham and West Ham scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the striker is not one of the names on their list of targets.

Brown previously told Football Insider that Arsenal would consider offers for the 27-year-old in the January transfer window as he is no longer a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have been linked with a move for Jesus to bolster their attacking options amid concerns about their depth up front.

Isak is reportedly considering his long-term future, and his exit would leave the Magpies with the injury-prone Callum Wilson as their only senior striker.

However, it has been said that the Sweden international’s departure would see Newcastle bring in a top goalscorer to replace him, and Jesus is not considered an option for that situation.

Football Insider revealed on 2 November that multiple top Premier League and European teams are considering a move to sign Isak in the summer of 2025.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the Magpies will consider other options as a move for Jesus is unlikely.

“I don’t think he’s one they’re going to be looking at,” he told Football Insider.

“If they’re going to lose Isak, who I hold in very high regard, finding a replacement of comparable standard for him is going to be very difficult.

“They’ll want a real top-level centre-forward who can guarantee them goals and help to link play.

“I don’t see Jesus as that type of player and I don’t think Newcastle will either.

“His record at Arsenal isn’t the most impressive and there’s a reason they want to move him on.

“They might be interested in bringing him in as a backup player if they think they’re going to keep Isak, but he’s not one of the names in line to replace him.“
