Gallagher Exclusive: O'Rourke shares update on Tottenham bid

Tottenham are actively monitoring Conor Gallagher’s situation at Chelsea and are expected to submit a bid imminently.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that Gallagher has been a long-term target for Ange Postecoglou with speculation over his future refusing to die down.

Spurs remain in contact with Gallagher’s representatives about a move to North London.

Chelsea would be willing to let the 24-year-old leave this summer as they attempt to raise money before 30 June amid concerns over profit and sustainability rules.

Football Insider previously revealed that Tottenham are expected to make an offer in the next fortnight, as the Blues attempt to raise money to balance the books at Stamford Bridge.

Gallagher was named in Gareth Southgate’s confirmed England squad ahead of Euro 2024, making the next step after an impressive season with Chelsea.

The midfielder made 50 appearances for his boyhood club last season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists as he established himself as a key player under Pochettino.

He also captained the side during the absence of Reece James, starting all 37 of his Premier League appearances.

His relentless energy and no-nonsense style are admired by Postecoglou, with Gallagher seen as a perfect fit for his system.

The 24-year-old’s deal is due to expire in June 2025 and talks have stalled over him penning a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Football Insider also revealed that Chelsea may refuse to entertain cut-priced deals for the midfielder among other homegrown talents, leaving them exposed to a possible points deduction.
