'He's A Dictator' - Ex-PL CEO rips into Ratcliffe after what he's just done at Man United

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has accused Sir Jim Ratcliffe of implementing an “old-fashioned dictatorship style” at Man United.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the billionaire may be making a “mistake” by trying to run the Red Devils like INEOS, his chemicals company.

In recent news, The Guardian have claimed (28 May) United have made it compulsory for staff to work from offices in Manchester or London from 1 June – rather than working from home.

The move has been unpopular with staff, who are said to be “bemused” by the change.

The Guardian also reported that (4 May) Ratcliffe also sent an email to all staff describing the state of some facilities as a “disgrace”.

Ratcliffe may be making early ‘mistake’ at Man United, says Wyness

The Briton, who is a boyhood fan of the club, took charge of football operations at Man United in February after his 25% takeover was ratified.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “He’s got into the club and he’s got his feet under the table, and it’s been a couple of months since the whole thing was approved.

“Ratcliffe obviously doesn’t like what he sees.

“Whether that’s a knee-jerk reaction, I don’t know. But ever since he and his team have got near the building, he’s felt there’s too much waste, not enough engagement, not enough spirit.

“He could be trying to compare it to his INEOS business, which would be a mistake. Football clubs are a lot more organic than industrial businesses – there are huge differences.

“Football is so heavily reliant on human beings.

“Ratcliffe is very hands-on himself. We’ve gone back to an old-fashioned dictatorship style, to a degree.

“I hoped he might be a bit more enlightened. We might see some fresh thinking, but he’s gone back to some old-fashioned management principles.”

In other news, Man United star duo could be the first to be sold as overhaul begins.
