Daniel Storey has claimed that Everton are “limping” under Sean Dyche and that there is no evidence to suggest he has been mistreated during his tenure at Goodison Park.
While an impending takeover will lift spirits on Merseyside in the near future, the current mood around the club is incredibly low with Everton severely underperforming.
The Toffees sit 15th in the table having won just twice since the start of the campaign with calls for Dyche to be sacked deflected by other claims that he has been mistreated.
However, Storey believes that is a “highly generous statement” to suggest that that is the case, and thinks that ultimately their inability to create any sort of goal threat might be what gets him sacked at Goodison Park.
In a story posted on inews (25 November), he wrote: “It’s not only that Everton have six points from six games at Goodison this season and have scored five goals during them. It’s that you watch them and can’t really see what the plan is to create high-value chances.
“That might just do for Dyche, at which point plenty of pundits will say that he has been badly mistreated and deserves to spend on this squad to shape it in his own vision. That is a highly generous assessment.
“This team is limping during its final season in a grand old ground because the team has been hardwired to assume that you can’t expect more than this. And I just don’t believe that that is true.”
Exit door surely open for Sean Dyche at Everton
For a club the size of Everton, it simply cannot be overlooked how much they are underperforming under Dyche and while there are many issues other than him, he is certainly one of them.
This season the Toffees have looked devoid of ideas and confidence with what is overall a solid Premier League squad.
Performances haven’t matched that level, though, with just two wins in 12 Premier League encounters. A change is needed.
However, with change comes responsibility and Everton, if they do relieve Dyche of his duties, need to find a sufficient replacement capable of transforming the club back into a side that can challenge higher up the table.
One man for that job is certainly not David Moyes, who was linked with a return to Goodison Park last week (Alan Nixon).
The Toffees need a young coach with fresh ideas. Someone who can get Everton players back to their best and it is something Dan Friedkin must consider once his takeover of the club gets ratified.
In other Everton news, Dominic Calvert-Lewin could leave the club in January with a Premier League rival interested.
