Barry Ferguson admits he has “seen enough” of Hamza Igamane this season to believe that Rangers have a player on their hands.

The Moroccan forward made his second Premiership appearance of the season off of the bench in the Gers’ 1-0 win over Dundee United on Sunday (15 September) impressing in place of Cyriel Dessers.

Although Igamane is yet to find the net in Gers’ colours, Go Radio pundit Ferguson admitted he was blown away by the 20-year-old’s “bottle” both at Tannadice and in the Old Firm defeat to Celtic.

Speaking on The Go Radio Show (16 September, 1:02:50) he said: “I liked what I saw when he came on in the Old Firm game. He showed that he’s got a bit of bottle.

“I thought when he replaced Cyriel Dessers up top [against Dundee United], some lovely touches, strong, looks like a real physical presence. It is still early doors but listen I’ve seen enough of him in a short period of time to think there’s something there to go and work on.

“We’ll see in the coming weeks and months how he’s going to turn out but the early signs, I’ve been impressed.”

How much did Rangers pay for Hamza Igamane transfer?

While it would be easy for Rangers supporters to get too far ahead of themselves after just a couple of cameos from Igamane, it does seem as though the Light Blues could have a very exciting prospect on their hands.

Most fans were confused as to why the Gers were so desperate to bring the Moroccan to Glasgow this summer, particularly when he was missing for much of pre-season, but his recent displays have shown exactly why.

The 20-year-old offers a completely different option at the top of the pitch to either Dessers or Danilo. On the ball, he looks more comfortable than Dessers yet out of possession, he can be a pest physically in a way that Danilo cannot.

There is still plenty of work to be done before Igamane can be considered the finished article and that includes getting the young forward firing in front of goal.

However, the initial indications are that Dessers finally has a genuine challenger for his starting role at the top end of the pitch.
