'Horrific' - Wenham slams referee as 'Depressing' claim emerges ahead of Tottenham v Arsenal

John Wenham blames Michael Oliver for Spurs’ defeat against Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims it would be “depressing” for Tottenham to lose a third consecutive home North London derby.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were beaten 3-2 by Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season (28 April). The season before that, Mikel Arteta and his players claimed a 2-0 victory in enemy territory (15 January 2023).

Jarred Gillett will be the man in charge when the Gunners visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (15 September).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has called on supporters to get Postecoglou’s side across the line.

“We could have won against Arsenal at home last season had it not been for a horrific refereeing performance from Oliver,” Wenham said,

“Having suffered back-to-back defeats against Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it would be depressing to lose a third consecutive time.

“Therefore, we need to go out there and put on a performance.

“A lot of that comes from the supporters. The fans will need to be the 12th man against Arsenal. It has been done before and it can be done again.”

Ange Postecoglou to claim first win over Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?

Spurs have just four points on the board after three matches. Therefore, for many, this will feel like a must-win game on Sunday.

Should they lose, not only will it be a third consecutive home defeat in the North London derby, but it would leave Spurs six points behind their fiercest rivals after just four matches.

Postecoglou’s side came flying out of the blocks last season. However, they have not done the same this year.

As a result, they must use the upcoming North London derby as an opportunity to kickstart their campaign.

In other Tottenham news, Wenham has detailed a financial “boost” after a recent club announcement.
