Report: Newcastle are 'very interested' in signing 'outstanding' Liverpool star, Reds are ready to sell him

Newcastle United and Liverpool haven’t done business with each other since the Georginio Wijnaldum transfer in 2016.

That proved to be an excellent business on the Anfield club’s part. Wijnaldum became a hugely important player for the Reds and helped them win the Premier League and the Champions League.

The last senior player to move from Liverpool to Newcastle was Danny Guthrie in 2008. He played over 100 games for the Magpies over four years at the club.

In the summer of 2025, the two Premier League clubs could be involved in another transfer – one that would benefit both sides.

Newcastle United want to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool

Caoimhin Kelleher has done a fine job at Liverpool.

The 26-year-old has always been a backup for Alisson Becker in the Reds goal. However, he has produced the goods on multiple occasions when he has been called upon.

Kelleher, hailed as ‘outstanding’ by Virgil van Dijk when speaking to Off The Ball, has wanted to become the number one for quite a while now, and the summer of 2025 will likely be the window in which he will find a new home for himself.

TeamTalk have revealed that Liverpool are ready to sell Kelleher for the right price as Giorgi Mamardashvili will be moving to Anfield next summer.

The report claims that Newcastle are ‘very interested’ in signing Kelleher and are the club to keep an eye on when the window opens next year.

The Magpies have wanted to sign an upgrade on Nick Pope since last summer. They weren’t able to find the right man then, but Kelleher is someone they genuinely admire.

Serie A side Fiorentina are also interested in signing Kelleher next summer, but if Newcastle really want him, they should be able to beat La Viola to his signature.

Newcastle have another goalkeeper on their wish list

Kelleher is an outstanding goalkeeper, and we think he would be a great option for Newcastle.

The Ireland international has learnt from the best in Alisson, and his experience at the top level in the Premier League will be beneficial to Newcastle.

However, Kelleher is not the only keeper on Eddie Howe’s radar.

The report claims that Newcastle are also looking at James Trafford of Burnley and could make a move to sign him in next summer’s transfer window.

Both Trafford and Kelleher are great options for the Toon, but if it was up to us, we would go with Kelleher.
