'Huge Loss' - Dan Bardell reacts as Rangers star linked with possible summer exit

Dan Bardell believes James Tavernier would be a “huge loss” to Rangers this summer though accepts every player has their price.

The Scottish Sun reported (4 July) that Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah are said to be keeping tabs and showing an interest in signing the 32-year-old Rangers skipper.

The experienced full-back had previously been linked to a reunion with Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, while Al-Qadsiah’s appointment of ex-Gers CEO James Bisgrove has added credence to those reports.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes ultimately it will be a decision left to Tavernier, who he thinks could be tempted if a lucrative contract offer is made.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “Tavernier is part of the furniture at Rangers.

“He’s been there such a long time and has been a really good player for them over the years. Every player has their price and a deal also depends on the player’s ambitions.

“If he thinks he can go over there and double his wages at this point in his career, he’ll probably want to. It would be a huge loss for Rangers.

“Sometimes you do have to refresh the squad so maybe it could be time to move on for both parties. He’ll only go if the move is right for him, Rangers can accept a bid but it will be Tavernier’s choice.“

Rangers could lose James Tavernier to Saudi Arabia

The Rangers captain has been a hugely important player for the club since joining in 2015, not least for his contribution at the other end of the pitch.

Tavernier has now scored over 100 goals for the club, registering 17 goals and 10 assists across his 38 Scottish Premiership appearances last term – a fantastic contribution for a defender.

Moreover, there is no doubt Philippe Clement would miss his skipper’s influence both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

It could prove nearly impossible for Clement to replace the influence of the 32-year-old in the transfer market, his assets are just so unique, but he is approaching the twilight of his career.

The riches on offer in Saudi are also likely to play a huge part in any decision Tavernier makes, at this stage of his career the money might be too good to turn down.
