Keith Jackson backs top-level probe at Rangers after potential James Bisgrove betrayal

Keith Jackson has hinted at Rangers and John Bennett being betrayed by James Bisgrove as the Ibrox construction saga continues.

The Daily Record journalist has suggested [8 July] that for everyone involved, the Ibrox debacle will have been “utterly mortifying.”

Bisgrove left Rangers in recent weeks to move over to Saudi Arabia, and a top-level probe has been backed to follow everything that has happened.

He wrote: “The embarrassment factor will be off the charts. For Rangers chairman John Bennett and his board, this debacle over the state of the Big Hoose will have come as an utterly mortifying experience.

“Not just for the strategic botch-up that’s left them without a functioning, fit for purpose home stadium for who knows how long. But more specifically, for the breathtaking act of betrayal that lies behind it.

“He wouldn’t be doing his job right if Bennett had not already launched a top-level probe into the circumstances that have caused this chaos to unfold and land on his desk without so much as an early warning. As part of that investigation, he’ll want to nail down exactly who knew what. And when.

Why Rangers are starting their season away from Ibrox

The 2024/25 season was set to be one full of change for the Gers with players already joining after numerous exits were confirmed.

The likes of Hamza Igamane and Connor Barron have arrived whilst first-team stalwarts such as Ryan Jack and John Lundstram have departed.

Whilst player changes were expected to happen, nobody expected the stadium drama that has followed.

Following the commencement of the 2023/24 term, the Copland Road stand at Ibrox was under construction and expected to be done before the opening day of the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership.

Evidently, this hasn’t happened and thanks to shipping delays, it was reported on 20 June that the project manager has been sacked [Scottish Sun].

Since then, however, further developments have occurred and it’s been rumoured that Philippe Clement’s side could find themselves at Hampden Park until October [the Daily Record, 7 July].

Which, by all accounts, would be an absolute farce on Rangers’ behalf.
