Izzy Christiansen has revealed that Micheal Keane told her the Everton players still feel “really positive” despite their poor start to the season.
The Toffees defender has come in for plenty of criticism from pundits and fans alike as Sean Dyche’s side continue to search for their first win of the new Premier League campaign.
Although some pundits have questioned whether or not the Blues will be able to avoid relegation, Sky Sports pundit Christiansen admits that Keane remained upbeat after the Toffees lost to Southampton at Goodison Park
Speaking on The Sports Agents podcast (26 September, 37:40) she said: “I actually bumped into Michael Keane in Manchester last week, the morning after they were knocked out of the EFL Cup.
“It was late morning they must have got home late and you can never sleep after a game especially when you lose. I had a chat with him and his other half and you kind of just forget about the human part of it as well.
“I asked him, how are you feeling? Do you think you’re going to turn it around? He just said the lads are really positive, but you wonder how many times have we been there with Everton?”
Will Everton avoid relegation from the Premier League at Goodison Park?
From the outside looking in, it does feel as though this Everton side have forgotten how to win in the Premier League, but Keane’s latest admission suggests that the mood in Dyche’s changing room remains upbeat.
There is more than enough quality in this current Blues team to avoid relegation from the Premier League this term, yet for whatever reason, the Toffees haven’t even come close to clicking into gear quite yet.
There is still an awful lot of football to be played between now and the end of the season and with the positive takeover news on Merseyside, supporters have every right to be upbeat, but Dyche needs to find a way to start winning games quickly.
With each passing defeat, the prospect of relegation is becoming more and more realistic. The Blues cannot afford to drop into the second tier, particularly with their new stadium so results need to shift quickly.
Hopefully, that positive feeling within the changing room is demonstrated against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.
