Dave King could break his cover on Rangers and speak up after the upcoming clash against Aberdeen on 30 October, according to Hugh Keevins.
Keevins, writing in the Daily Record [26 October], predicts the former chairman could raise his head above the parapet in the coming days having been critical of the Ibrox hierarchy earlier in the campaign.
Fans revealed banners in their latest voicing of displeasure with events at Ibrox during the 1-0 defeat at Kilmarnock [20 October], and equal pressure is on Philippe Clement’s side back in Govan against St Mirren on 27 October, with the tricky Pittodrie trip to follow.
Keevins said: “Where is Dave King and what, if anything, is he up to with regard to Rangers?
“The former chairman, and still significant shareholder, chose to verbally lay into Rangers’ hierarchy earlier in the season. Long before the fans unfurled banners deploring the board during the debacle at Kilmarnock a week ago.
“It could be argued, without much effort, that things have got substantially worse on the domestic front since King cut loose on a public platform.
“This is a domestic squabble and King always plays the Celtic card when he wants to focus attention on Rangers’ problems. Could he be waiting to see what happens at Pittodrie on Wednesday and assess whether the time is right to break cover?”
Dave King exercising a strategy at Rangers?
When one is outside of a hierarchy for whom things are publicly difficult and seemingly spiralling, it is easy to employ a strategy to bury the nails into the coffin.
This is what King is currently doing at Rangers, where he remains a significant investor.
With a win over St Mirren still expected, it will be a thankless task in the short term for Clement and his team on the pitch. Win and it’s standard, draw or lose and it’s disastrous.
But Gers fans have been used to that, having failed to capitalise on the 2-2 draw between Celtic and Aberdeen on 19 October – going down via that late goal to Kilmarnock to lose even further ground.
The midweek journey north to face the Dons could prove absolutely pivotal this season, and King will of course be one of many watching closely.
In other Rangers news, Dan Plumley says the club can afford a replacement for Clement.
