Ibrox View: Koppen can now secure Rangers transfer for 11-goal star as asking price drops

Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen have wasted no time gutting and rebuilding their Rangers side during the summer transfer window.

Several big names have already departed Glasgow with the likes of Borna Barisic and John Lundstram moving on at the end as free agents and stars like James Tavernier and Todd Cantwell still being linked with exits.

Oscar Cortes, Jefte Clinton Nsiala, Liam Kelly and Connor Barron have all also arrived in the opening weeks of the window, but it is clear that the Gers don’t intend on stopping there this summer.

One player both pundits and supporters have been key to see return north of the border is Brighton forward Abdallah Sima and the door may have now opened for the Gers to swoop in and secure their man.

The Seagulls had been keen to test the market for the Senegelse international this summer as they look to maximise his value before selling to the highest bidder [Rangers Review, 6 June] with a final decision not expected until later in the window.

However, reports now suggest that the 23-year-old’s value has dropped as he enters the final year of his contract on the south coast, which could well be music to the ears of those in charge in Glasgow [Sussex Live via Football Scotland, 29 June].

There had been fears that the Light Blues wouldn’t have been able to meet Brighton’s valuation of Sima, especially as Clement looks to rebuild the majority of his side, but those concerns may now have been brushed to the side.

It isn’t understood how much the forward’s value has depleted, but if he has now fallen back into Rangers’ price range, Koppen shouldn’t waste any more time and should move now to secure his signature.

In just 17 Scottish Premiership stars last term, the 23-year-old scored 11 goals and registered two assists. If he could stay fully fit for a full season, he may be able to help fire Clement’s side to the title.

Hopefully, Koppen and his recruitment team will be able to agree on a fee with Brighton sooner rather than later as this would be an excellent boost for the Gers at this stage of the window.
