Ibrox View: Player clearly misses out on Rangers 'Dream' as his next transfer now confirmed

Rangers experienced an indifferent summer transfer window and fans were hoping Philippe Clement would add one more name to the squad.

While the window slammed shut on 30 August, free agents are still available for the Gers to acquire, and there is one name that was raising eyebrows around Ibrox.

Former midfield star John Fleck, who left Scotland in 2012, has bounced from club to club on free transfers ever since, recently leaving Blackburn Rovers after just one appearance.

The 33-year-old has admitted it was a “dream” of his to return to Ibrox [Daily Record], saying the club is ingrained in his heart.

He even trained at Auchenhowie during the summer after being released by Rovers [Daily Record].

This provided little suggestions among the passionate fanbase – the potential of adding more depth to the midfield, joining Connor Barron and Mohamed Diomande and providing an incredible amount of knowledge and experience.

However, that is no longer a possibility, at least not this season, as the former Scotland international put pen to paper at Chesterfield until the end of the 2024/25 campaign [X].

Rangers snub John Fleck after transfer news

Having spent five years of his senior career with the Gers, making 56 appearances before joining Coventry City in 2012, there was a strong feeling around the club that he could return this season.

At the holding-midfield spot, if either Diomande or Barron are to face an extended spell on the sidelines, Clement may struggle to find a replacement among his current options.

Despite his proneness to injury in the past, Fleck would have allowed the manager to rotate in the midfield, even if his signing would not prove very inspiring.

It looks as if Fleck has missed out on his dream move back to Rangers, with his latest transfer suggesting the level he finds himself at towards the end of his career.

It’s time to move on.
