Ibrox View: Rangers chiefs deserve plaudits as financial announcement made today

Rangers board members are at the very centre of all things negative right now as criticism continues to be aimed towards Ibrox.

The Gers’ hierarchy was torn to pieces by Dave King after John Bennett decided to step down as the club’s chairman, sharing his desire to fill the role and save the Scottish giants [Rangers Review].

Issues started to emerge at Ibrox even before the 2024/25 campaign began, with redevelopment setbacks forcing Philippe Clement’s side to play their home games at Hampden Park.

Following that, the Gers were then knocked out of Champions League qualifying before losing the Old Firm derby against Celtic 3-0, showing a complete lack of ambition versus their biggest rivals.

There are blatant problems off and on the pitch, few of which look close to being addressed anytime soon, but the Ibrox chiefs do deserve to be applauded after the latest announcement.

Rangers announce “massive” financial deal at Ibrox

The Gers have already been commended for the “massive” extension with Kindred Group as the longest-running shirt partnership in British football continues into the 2024/25 season [Official website].

The new deal is set to be worth 80 per cent more than the current one, which will only have a positive effect on the financial difficulties at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen struggled to splash the cash during the summer transfer market while Old Firm rivals Celtic were happy to invest heavily, which makes a huge difference at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

There is no hiding from how different each club’s fortunes are, but it looks as though the hierarchy is taking steps to address this and help the Gers move forward financially. For that, they deserve praise.

While there is still a “gulf” between the Old Firm rivals, members of the board have taken an important step to closing it, hopefully leading to a Scottish Premiership title coming their way sooner rather than later.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart has made a jibe at the Gers as a new prediction is shared.
