The gap between Rangers and Celtic could be set to grow after they tabled a £10million bid for Arne Engels from Augsburg.

The Gers have been left in their Old Firm rivals’ shadow over the years on the pitch with the Hoops securing 12 of the last 13 Premiership titles.

This disappointment has lasted for many years and has begun to spread off the pitch with the financial gulf being more obvious now than it has ever been.

Based on the transfer window that the Light Blues have had compared to Brenden Rodgers’ side, the gap is growing every day between the two giants of Scottish football.

Rangers fall behind Celtic after Arne Engels bid

Denmark international, Matt O’Riley departed from Parkhead in a deal worth £25m to Brighton [The Guardian] and now that fee appears to be reinvested immediately.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph reported on 28 August that Engels from Augsburg is being targeted with a multi-million-pound bid.

The 20-year-old prospect has already made over 50 appearances for the Bundesliga side [FotMob] and could represent a real coup.

This would just go to prove once again that the gap is huge between the Old Firm clubs as the Gers can barely afford to make signings right now.

In the current window, Robin Propper and Hamza Igamane are the only players signed for a fee with the latter unlikely to make a dent on the first team this season.

It is unfortunate to see the situation that the Gers find themselves in and it will take some time for them to catch up with their Glasgow rivals.
