Ibrox View: Rangers player clearly rejected offers to leave as he speaks out in last 24 hours

Ianis Hagi and Rangers have been in a back-and-forth battle throughout the summer.

The Romanian international spent last season on loan to Alaves in La Liga and played 39 times while managing to contribute to four goals.

The Gers likely expected the playmaker to perform far better than he did so that they could try to generate some much-needed funds from his sale.

After a summer of trying, however, a sale never came to fruition and since then, Hagi has revealed his desire to stay at Ibrox for the 2024/25 campaign.

He’s even thanked the clubs that made offers for him, but suggested they have been rejected which further solidifies his desire to stay.

He told Prima Sport on 9 September: “I want to thank those who contacted me, I don’t want to give names. They spoke to me very well, in superlative terms, but my fight is outside.”

Rangers should give Ianis Hagi another chance

Although Philippe Clement wants to see the back of the playmaker, the fact that the Light Blues didn’t sign a number 10 during the window has left a void that needs to be filled.

Hagi may not be the man that the club desired to play there at the start of the transfer window but since no moves have come to fruition, his versatility could be of real use to the Gers.

Rangers and Ianis Hagi are at a crossroads

Especially with Rabbi Matondo’s latest injury [Football Scotland, 5 September], the club find themselves down a player in the final third.

He can also provide cover for Tom Lawrence in games where he needs a rest. It’s still early days of course, but if Hagi is set to stay, Clement may as well use him rather than force him into the B team where he is of no use to anyone.

With offers clearly rejected, it’s time for the next step.

In other Rangers news, the Gers could sign a free agent as a potential James Tavernier replacement.
