Rangers summer target Kenny McLean has refused to divulge more about the Ibrox links as he wants to continue at Norwich City.

He admitted that there were doubts as the new manager wanted a younger squad, but after speaking to him, his mind was made up.

When asked about links with a move to Ibrox in the summer, the 32-year-old midfielder responded, via Rangers Review: “Not too much that needed spoken about, to be honest.

“The manager [Johannes Hoff Thorup] was in the door for a couple of weeks and had a conversation with him.

“He’d made it quite clear publicly that he wanted young players and I didn’t quite fit that bracket! But when I spoke to him he knew he needed some experience about the place and I’ve been there a long time.

“He told me I was still a big part of the plan. So for me that was me secure and getting my head down at Norwich and not really focusing on elsewhere. It was something that was resolved pretty quickly.

“Even at the young age of 32 I’m feeling good. We’re [Norwich] playing good stuff. We’re playing really good stuff. the way the manager wants to play. That’s what everybody wants to be involved in.

“So if there’s a chance of success there then we’re going to do everything to do that. As I say, we’re improving all the time and long may that continue. “

Rangers may consider a January transfer pursuit of Kenny McLean

Gers may consider revisiting their interest in McLean during the January transfer window, aiming to bolster their midfield options for the latter half of the season, potentially enhancing their competitiveness and positioning for future success.

Given McLean’s age of 32, his experience in the Premier League with Norwich could be invaluable for Rangers, particularly in navigating the challenges of both domestic and European football.

His game awareness, ball distribution and leadership qualities would complement a squad aiming to fuse young talent with seasoned campaigners.

Additionally, McLean’s Scottish roots and international experience could resonate well with the fanbase and offer the tactical nous needed for crucial matches.

Philippe Clement has seen senior figures in midfield like Ryan Jack, Steven Davis and John Lundstram part ways with the club and may look for some leadership in that area of the pitch.

If there is a deal to be made for the 32-year-old in January, the Belgian might be keen on it.

In other Rangers news, an English have gone on record to confirm that they permanently want to sign a Gers defender.
