'I'm being serious' - Alan Brazil raises Far East investment point at Rangers

Alan Brazil raised a point about investment from the Far East into Rangers, following the release of the club’s financial figures.

There has been early talk of a takeover interest based in the region [PLZ Soccer, 23 September] which would inject massive funds into the Gers, who reported a loss of £17.2million for the financial year ending in June 2024.

Brazil, speaking live on talkSPORT [30 October, 07:51] with a concerned Ally McCoist, raised the point about the proposed Far Eastern interest.

“What about the guys from Hong Kong? I’m being serious now,” he said.

“There was talk of interest from Hong Hong or Asia.”

Rangers finances ring alarm bells

It is clear that Rangers need some degree of added external investment to avoid a similar loss next year, even if steps are supposedly being taken to stem the flow.

This is also key for the purposes of competing in Scotland and Europe while remaining sustainable, with Celtic having reported far superior figures – helped out in no small part by their presence in the Champions League.

The board at Ibrox have an equity plan in place which will not see the losses decrease in the immediate future, which could further concern disgruntled Gers fans.

The club are now also into an in-depth consultation with US-based billionaire John Halsted [Daily Record, 29 October] over further investment, in a bid to put an end to recent overpaying for underperformance.

The hurdles keep getting thrown Rangers’ way, and they must navigate them while simultaneously keeping pace on the pitch under Philippe Clement.
