'I'm Hearing' - Keith Wyness reveals details on two new Everton takeover bidders

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed two new bidders are “seriously considering” a takeover of the Toffees.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – also suggested a bid led by former LA Dodgers general manager Kevin Malone is not as strong as other options.

Everton confirmed last week (19 July) that the Friedkin Group will not be progressing with a purchase of the club despite entering a period of exclusivity.

777 Partners also failed to wrap up a takeover earlier this year after a drawn-out process which started in September 2023 and are still owed around £200million in loans.

The Merseyside club were hit with points deductions for breaking Premier League financial rules last season but are set to move into their state-of-the-art new stadium next year – which is expected to bring a huge monetary boost.

Two new bidders considering Everton takeover, says Wyness

Wyness claimed the “777 issue” will be causing problems for interested parties with the US-based investors currently facing legal action.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Kevin Malone was the general manager of the LA Dodgers.

“My American contacts are telling me that bid may not be as strong as the Vici and Keith Harris bid.

“I’m hearing there are also two bidders who are seriously considering this in the background.

“There will be no shortage of people wanting to kick the tyres and look in the data room.

“But the 777 issue is the one that everyone has to solve.

“If you decide to pay that £200million back to 777, then there could be a risk further down the road that you’ve paid it to the wrong person.

“One option is to put the money in escrow and wait for the court proceedings to be settled.

“There are potential solutions, but it depends on the resources of the buyer to take a calculated risk with the knowledge that Everton are a big prize.”
