Michael Devlin believes that Rangers will be looking to sign another striker despite ravishing praise on Hamza Igamane.
He believes that a lot of the Moroccan’s good work is done outside the box and for him to be a regular number nine, he needs to be more in the central areas inside the penalty area.
This comes after the 22-year-old bagged two goals against Nice in the Europa League on Thursday.
He told BBC Sportscene, as quoted by the Daily Record on 1 December: “Potentially. I think when you look at Igamane’s game, a lot of his good work is done outside the box. He is a strong runner in the channels.
“I think to get the level and numbers of goals that Rangers require, he needs to focus on being on where it matters between the goalposts. If he can add that to his game he can bring that but I’m sure they will look to strengthen in that position.”
Hamza Igamane does not need to change his game too much at Rangers
Today’s top attacking players often aren’t confined to the penalty area but instead, they contribute across the front line.
Igamane’s ability to operate effectively outside the box, stretching defences and creating space, is a valuable asset.
His style reflects that of many contemporary forwards who start wide before moving centrally,
They utilise their pace and positioning to devastating effect.
By encouraging Igamane to stick to his dynamic, fluid approach rather than pigeonholing him as a traditional goal poacher, Rangers could foster a versatile attacker.
What the Moroccan requires more than a change in style is match experience to boost his confidence and refine his decision-making, allowing him to naturally develop into a multifaceted threat, not just in scoring but in overall game influence.
In other Rangers news, Graeme Souness has made a claim on Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp after what he’s noticed.
