Barry Ferguson feels as though Ianis Hagi has been able to make a real difference in the Rangers side after his recent performances.
Although he wasn’t involved at the start of the season, the 26-year-old has been in the starting line-up for the last two games, leading him to contribute two assists in his side’s 6-0 thrashing of Kilmarnock.
As Philippe Clement looks to turn things around at Ibrox, Hagi could well establish himself as being a key part of that change with his recent performances impressing supporters.
Ferguson definitely feels this could be the case too as he wrote in The Daily Record [7 December, page 53]: “It’s no coincidence to me that there’s more of a creative and cutting edge to the team now that players like Ianis Hagi and Danilo are back in the fold.
“I’m thrilled for Hagi that he’s getting the chance to prove what a talented football player he is and I’m enjoying watching the way he goes about his work in that No.10 position.
“He’s clever. He’s bright as a button. And he uses that natural intelligence to float into little pockets of space where he knows he can damage the opposition. It all comes so naturally to him.
“Again, without getting carried away, he plays that position in a very similar way to how Ronald de Boer used to in my day. Guys like that are difference makers in the final third and Rangers look like a different animal with Hagi in that role.”
Ianis Hagi could be the difference at Rangers
Although he has found minutes hard to come by of late, the 26-year-old has certainly done all of his talking on the pitch which has certainly put him in a good light of late.
Despite having only made five appearances during the campaign so far, the Romanian international already has three assists under his belt which shows his ability to have an impact on the team and also provides plenty to get excited about.
For Clement, there is no escaping how poor this season has been for his side so far but with his job at risk, he is desperate to be the man to turn things around at Ibrox which is probably why we’ve seen players like Hagi come back into the fold.
There is plenty of work still to be done by the Gers this term but if the midfielder can keep up his impressive form going forward, he will no doubt be able to play a big part going forward trying to improve his side’s fortunes.
