'It was a consequence': Ange Postecoglou gives honest verdict on Bruno Fernandes' red card v Tottenham

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou was a happy man after his side beat Man United today as a Bruno Fernandes red card helped his team complete an easy win.

Spurs won out 3-0 in the end and it could easily have been more as well as they missed a number of big chances.

However, three was enough and the performance overall was that of a team who seem to be getting things clicking nicely a few months into the season.

Of course, the huge talking point in the game was that aforementioned red for Fernandes. The United skipper caught James Maddison high and was given a straight red for doing so.

And speaking of the incident, Postecoglou has said that his Tottenham team forcing the issue led to Fernandes’ rash challenge.

Ange Postecoglou says Spurs deserve credit for Bruno Fernandes red

Speaking to the media after the game and pressed on the red for Fernandes, Postecoglou admitted he felt it came about due to his Tottenham players taking the game to United.

“I think it was a consequence of how we were going in the game, just putting enormous pressure on them,” Postecoglou said.

“The amount of chances that we were creating, we weren’t letting them get out of their half. It was a strong all-round performance.”

Postecoglou will want this every week

Yes, United were pretty abysmal and at times it looked like men against boys.

But for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou, this is the blueprint now for them to go all out and produce the same sort of performance every week.

This is what Ange has been longing for ever since he took over at Tottenham and he will be desperate to see standards maintained going forward.

If Tottenham can do that and produce the goods, then there’s no reason why they cannot challenge for fourth place.
