Keith Jackson believes Rangers ace Ianis Hagi has been “treated terribly” by Philippe Clement.

The midfielder has been made an outcast by his manager after failing to secure a permanent move away from the club during the summer transfer window.

Hagi has been playing with the Gers’ B team since his return from Euro 2024 despite being the last remaining SPFL player in the tournament.

Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (12 September) Jackson said if Rangers played the Romania international, he’d help improve the squad.

“I understand why Rangers fans are asking the question,” Jackson said.

“They’re looking at what they’ve got on the pitch and they can’t fathom why Hagi has been treated terribly.

“Rangers fans aren’t daft, they’re looking at what they do have on that pitch and they know that there’s every chance that if Hagi was out there he’d improve them.”

Rangers would be better with Ianis Hagi in their first-team

Rangers have undergone plenty of change during summer in terms of transfers.

Many players such as John Lundstram and Borna Barisic have exited while players such as Connor Barron have arrived to fill the voids.

Nedim Bajrami was welcomed to Ibrox in the dying embers of the window and will help bolster their forward ranks.

Tom Lawrence is currently the Gers’ best choice in the number 10 role, which has been shown during Rangers’ game against Ross County.

Hagi can also be used on either flank and his versatility would no doubt help Clement boost his team’s hopes of winning the title.

Hagi would also provide extra cover in attack should any players such as Vaclav Cerny or Lawrence end up with a long-term injury just like Rabbi Matondo already has.

Instead of having the playmaker banished to the B team, it makes sense for him to be included in Clement’s first-team squad, even if it does cost the club an extra £6,000 per week [Daily Record, 13 August].
