Kieran Trippier 'reads between the lines' as Newcastle exit finalised - pundit

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier can “read between the lines” as the club prepares to sell the experienced defender.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Scotland striker Frank McAvennie believes it would be a ‘real shame’ for Trippier, 33, to leave the club after being the first signing of the new Saudi era.

Football Insider revealed (August 19) that Newcastle United are willing to sell Kieran Trippier in the last week of the summer transfer window.

Trippier was included in Newcastle’s squad for their opener against Southampton, but Eddie Howe chose youngster Tino Livramento over him in the starting eleven.

After two-and-a-half years at the Tyneside club, Newcastle are now ready to cash in on the England international.

Trippier has made 92 appearances, 84 of which were starts, for the Magpies in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing 23 assists since his move from Atletico Madrid.

“Yeah I think he’s leaving”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“You can read between the lines and it’s a shame because he got brought it and was the first signing of the new era.

“He did alright but he did make a few clangers, big howlers last season. Problems in the house I think!

“I feel for him but he’s a good player, he will go somewhere.

“Yeah, I can see Trippier going.”
