Leeds fans: Joe Gelhardt must leave after 'Premier League' development

Leeds United fans are calling for Joe Gelhardt to leave the club after recent claims that the attacker is still on “Premier League wages”.

The attacker had been heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road throughout the summer transfer window, but no move materialised.

Now, it appears the lack of movement was due to clubs being unwilling to pay his lofty wages, leaving him stranded at Leeds.

Speaking to Leeds United News, journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed: “He is on huge money at Leeds. That is the reason he’s still at Leeds, he’s being paid far too much money. He’s got Premier League wages.”

Gelhardt made just 13 appearances last season as it became obvious that he no longer features in Daniel Farke’s plans for his squad.

His lack of appearances, combined with high wages, have led fans to question why he was not moved on in the summer – at least on loan.

There had been reported interest in his signature, but it appears he is happy to remain on the bench at Elland Road rather than taking a wage cut elsewhere.

So far this season, Gelhardt has made one appearance from the bench, but remains out of Farke’s plans and has failed to do enough in training to impress the boss.

With Mateo Joseph displacing Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe in the first team, Gelhardt has fallen further down the pecking order.

Now, supporters are insisting he should be allowed to leave Leeds, at least on loan, as they look to shift some of his wages off of the bill.
