Leeds fans love Sky's Archie Gray reveal after full Tottenham debut

Leeds United fans love what Archie Gray said after making his first competitive start for Tottenham in their Carabao Cup clash v Coventry City.

Gray started and played 90 minutes at right-back as Ange Postecoglou’s side fought to a late 2-1 win thanks to goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the 18-year-old shared: “This is a difficult place to come, you know. I played here last year and even at our ground last year they always play a tough game and there are always lots of transitions.

“They did well today, their fans got behind them and they brought the game to us, so credit to them, but we always knew that we had what it took to take it right to the end.”

Referring to Elland Road as “our ground” despite his £40million move to Tottenham in the summer reminded many that Gray was and still is a Leeds fan.

The youngster broke through under Daniel Farke last season, becoming a regular in the starting XI at just 17 years old, and earned the big-money move to the Premier League.

However, the part Leeds played in his early career, and the fact that Gray is a boyhood fan of the club, is not something that will be quickly forgotten.

Supporters were “heartbroken” when Gray left Elland Road to move to Tottenham in the summer and were gutted to lose one of the club’s brightest stars.

However, they were forced to move on quickly with the start of the Championship season as they once again began their battle for promotion.

Gray’s latest comments have come as a nice tough for fans at Elland Road, who are insisting the 18-year-old will “always be Leeds” despite leaving the club.

Many fans were also excited by their academy graduate making his first start for Tottenham in the cup.
