'Little bit different' - Joe Thomas moots Everton loan move for Man United winger

Joe Thomas has suggested Everton should eye a loan deal for promising Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri as they look to strengthen their squad.

The Liverpool Echo journalist wrote in an article for the publication’s online edition on Friday (July 5) that, despite securing Tim Iroegbunam and Iliman Ndiaye on permanent deals, and Jack Harrison on loan, the departures of Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey have left gaps at Goodison Park.

Thomas believes raiding Man United for one of their younger wide players could be smart business for the Toffees.

He said:” I would be really interested in taking a look at Manchester United’s wide options.

“They have a crowded field with Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jaden Sancho and Amad Diallo all currently set to compete for minutes.

“If any relationship was to remain with the club after the Jarrad Branthwaite saga I would ask whether Amad could be available and if not, I would ask the same question of young winger Facundo Pellistri, who has had a good start to the Copa America with Uruguay and will surely struggle for meaningful first team experience at Old Trafford.

“It would be a move that is less about finding the finished product but more about offering something a little bit different to the squad.”

Everton busy so far in summer transfer window

Everton have had a hectic start to the summer transfer window, having already made several signings to strengthen their squad.

Iroegbunam and Ndiaye have joined on permanent deals from Aston Villa and Marseille, while Harrison is back on loan from Leeds United.

However, it could be argued that despite these additions, the departures of Dobbin and Godfrey have left some noticeable gaps.

The need for more wingers is clear. Last season, the Toffees were heavily reliant on Dwight McNeil and Harrison, both of whom struggled with injuries.

That’s why it comes as no surprise that the club is now exploring options to bolster their wide areas, with potential moves for Newcastle’s Yankuba Minteh and Hull City’s Jaden Philogene.

Additionally, there’s now mooted talk of a loan move for Pellistri, who has impressed at the Copa America.

With several weeks left in the transfer window, it looks like Everton are far from done with their business.
