Versatile defender Piero Hincapie has been tipped for a move away from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, with both Liverpool and Tottenham having shown great interest in the Ecuadorian.

The 22-year-old has been at Leverkusen since 2021 when he signed from Argentinian side Talleres.

The Ecuador international made 43 appearances last season as Leverkusen sensationally won the domestic double and reached the final of the Europa League.

However, he was not always a regular starter, making just 16 Bundesliga starts in his 26 league appearances.

Sky Germany reports that Hincapie wants to be a more regular starter from now on and is open to leaving Leverkusen to find more opportunities elsewhere.

The report states that there is interest from and talks have been held with ‘top clubs’ but there has been nothing agreed at this stage.

Tottenham made a bid for Hincapie last year while Liverpool held talks over signing the defender in 2023 as well.

Hincapie already has 37 caps for Ecuador and was named in the Copa America Team of the Tournament this summer after a run to the quarter-finals and a narrow defeat to Argentina on penalties.

Hincapie was in pre-season action for Leverkusen om Wednesday as the German side was hammered 4-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz scored the goals for the Gunners with Adam Hlozek getting a late consolation.

The Ecuadorian posted on Instagram after the loss: ‘Disappointed by today’s performance, work more and nothing more.’
