Man United shock: Ex-PL CEO 'amazed' by Ratcliffe 'attack' on the Glazers

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe “attacked” the Glazer Family with his latest media comments.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Manchester-born billionaire seems to have “bitten off more than he can chew” at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Bloomberg (20 June), Ratcliffe pointed to the “environment” as a reason for Man United’s relative lack of recent success, suggesting the club lacks “competitiveness” and “intensity”.

He again compared the Red Devils to Real Madrid, bemoaning the fact that United “doesn’t have any players that are valued at €100million or more”.

Ratcliffe completed the purchase of a 28% stake in the club earlier this year and took charge of footballing operations at Old Trafford.

The Glazer Family, who initially invested in Man United in 2003, still own a majority of the club.

Ratcliffe has launched ‘direct attack’ on Glazers at Man United, says Wyness

Wyness insisted he was “amazed” to see Ratcliffe’s “direct attack” on the Americans.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It sounds like he is calling out the Glazers.

“I was amazed by that, to be honest. I thought there would have been something in the contract preventing him from disparaging them in any way.

“It seemed a pretty direct attack on how they have run this football club in the last 10 years or so.

“He’s having a lot to say, and I think he’s falling into the trap of a new owner – he’s come in saying lots of things, but isn’t coming up with the right solutions.

“He’s spent a lot of money on this stake.

“Ratcliffe is trying to change the culture, but there are so many things going on – I think he may have bitten off a bit more than he can chew at the moment.”

In other news, Man United plan to accept “huge” offer for star man.
