Man United Sources: Significant Joshua Zirkzee update today

Man United will not make a knee-jerk decision on Joshua Zirkzee’s future and he will be given the opportunity to ignite his career at the club in the coming months, sources close to the club have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old has not performed at Old Trafford since making the summer switch from Serie A side Bologna.

However, sources say club chiefs feel the Netherlands international is not the only player who isn’t showcasing their best form at present.

Zirkzee was signed under Erik ten Hag but the Dutchman has since been sacked by United and replaced by Ruben Amorim, who started work with the Red Devils last week.

The forward has been linked with a return to Serie A with Juventus and Napoli in recent days, but it is believed he will be given the chance to transform his Old Trafford career under Amorim.

He scored on debut for United in the season-opening 1-0 victory against Fulham in August but is yet to score another goal for the club.

Zirkzee has made 17 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils but has been part of the starting lineup on just seven occasions.

However, with fellow forward Rasmus Hojlund also struggling for goals – the Netherlands international has the chance to break back into the side if he can put together a scoring run under Amorim.

The 23-year-old is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2029.

He has scored once in five Netherlands caps but was axed by Ronald Koeman for their games against Hungary and Bosnia & Herzegovina this month.

Amorim’s first match as United boss is away against Ipswich Town on Sunday (24 November), followed by his first Old Trafford game against Bodo/Glimt next week (28 November).
