Midfielder now wanted by La Liga club after Everton contract runs out - report

Andre Gomes is now a potential target for Las Palmas after his contract at Everton expired, according to El Chiringuito TV.

Marcos Benito reported for the Spanish outlet on 26 July that the Portuguese midfielder is now one of the options for the La Liga club.

Gomes, 30, left Goodison Park this summer after 114 appearances and previously played for Barcelona and Valencia in the Spanish top flight.

Fellow midfield options Dele Alli also saw his Toffees contract run out at the end of the season but the ex-England star could be brought back after successful talks with Tottenham over restructuring payment terms [The Athletic, 16 July].

Andre Gomes wanted at Las Palmas after Everton exit, Dele Alli could return

Gomes’ career on Merseyside was badly interrupted by the serious injury he suffered in a game against Tottenham in 2019.

And while he returned to being a regular feature for the rest of that season and the next his form never fully did and he fell out of favour under successive managers while his contract proved increasingly onerous to a club in financial difficulties.

After a year away on loan at Lille he did force his way back into Sean Dyche’s reckoning to make 14 appearances last term while, scoring the winner in the FA Cup against Crystal Palace, but investing in another deal was unlikely to be sensible.

Andre Gomes could be heading to La Liga after departing Everton.

It is still undecided whether Dele will be returning but Dyche is believed to have big plans for a revival of the ex-Spurs star after similar success with Dominic Calvert-Lewin [Liverpool Echo, 12 July].

If the numbers are right and there is confidence the 28-year-old can get back to full fitness then the Englishman could prove to be a game-changer at Goodison.

But after more than a year out of action that surely remains a hope rather than an expectation at this stage.

In other Everton news, another big-money Toffees signing could now be on the rocks after the latest update emerged.
