'Definitely a Problem' - Journalist shares DCL exit update at Everton

Everton have a definite problem with Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer as they are currently unable to find a buyer, according to Ian Croll.

The Liverpool Echo journalist responded to a fan via X on 26 July to report that other clubs are not interested in signing the striker at this stage.

He has been offered an extension to his contract, which has entered its final 12 months, but appears unlikely to sign it in the wake of the Dan Friedkin takeover failing [Paul Joyce, 19 July].

Croll wrote: “The DCL situation is definitely a problem. A contract has been offered though. No other clubs interested so far! What else can the club do?”

Everton exit broke down after talks with Newcastle

The unfortunate reality is that the Toffees will probably have to lower their asking price if they hope to sell Calvert-Lewin this summer.

There is reportedly interest from the likes of West Ham [Sky Sports, 15 July] and from Manchester United [TEAMtalk, 9 July], but with talkSPORT reporting on 16 July that Everton want £40m for the 27-year-old none appear to have made bids.

He was offered to Newcastle as part of the attempts to bring in Yakuba Minteh with the Magpies long-term admirers but the deal proved unsuccessful [The Times, 24 June].

Everton have an issue around the status of top striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

An England international striker who has 54 Premier League goals to his name and would be registered as a domestic player is always going to have interest.

But with less than a year left on his deal and significant injury problems in recent seasons it looks like a buyer’s market as the club are under pressure to sell.

Everton have refused to cave to Old Trafford’s advances on Jarrad Branthwaite so far but if they are worried about losing Calvert-Lewin for nothing they may have no choice but to lower their expectations.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports journalist has issued an update on talks for another attacking signing after Jesper Lindstrom.
