Keith Jackson thinks that Rangers could start Hamza Igamane during their game versus Dundee next weekend.
The Morocco international made his second appearance for the club in a 25-minute cameo against Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (15 September), where the Gers won 1-0.
Igamane was only on the field from the 65th minute and didn’t have an impact on the scoreline but it was good to see a new face up front.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (15 September), Jackson shared that Igamane could be “bled in” to Philippe Clement’s squad now he’s ready to play.
“I’ve seen enough in two short cameo displays to think that there is a talent there [in Igamane],” Jackson said.
“There seems to me to be enough talent and raw potential in this boy that should give Rangers fans cause for a bit of excitement.
“I think because Dessers is having to carry the workload and be the only number nine, I think it is more than likely that Clement will try to bleed this boy in.
“It might well be, start him against Dundee and let him just carry a bit of the weight.”
Cyriel Dessers could lose his Rangers starting spot
As Jackson mentioned, Cyriel Dessers is the only fit number nine at the club with the likes of Danilo sidelined due to a long-term injury.
This has resulted in the Nigeria international being picked to start every game despite his underwhelming form in the final third.
While he’s still got a fairly healthy goal return, the amount of chances he misses is starting to become concerning.
It feels as if the only reason the 29-year-old is getting high on the Gers’ top scorer ranks is because of the sheer amount of chances he’s presented with.
Should Igamane get more minutes as the season goes on, it’s hard to see how Dessers will keep his starting spot, especially if he continues to misplace his shots.
Igamane is also still just 22 years old so there’s plenty of time for Clement to coach the youngster into his ideal number nine.
It’s also still early in the Morocco international’s Rangers career, of course, and there’s plenty of time for things to change.
But if his two cameo appearances are anything to go off, the Gers may have a stellar talent on their books.
