Newcastle United endured a frustrating window in the end as they didn’t quite add the players they wanted to.
Eddie Howe admitted that PSR issues had left his club struggling a bit in the summer and in the end, they went through deadline day without anything happening.
Of course, that doesn’t mean to say that Newcastle didn’t try to get more business done in the final week.
Newcastle were among the clubs looking at signing Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, while the Mags also tried hard to sign Marc Guehi.
On deadline day, Newcastle were also linked with a move for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.
And according to The Athletic’s Daniel Taylor, the offer for Elanga would actually have resulted in a club-record sale for Nottingham Forest.
Newcastle offer for Anthony Elanga was close to £50m
Taking to his social media account on X to share the news about Elanga and Newcastle, journalist Taylor paid tribute to the Forest ownership in rejecting the bid.
And in doing so, Taylor revealed that the offer from Newcastle – which included Miguel Almiron – would have been worth around the £50m mark.
Elanga would have shone at Newcastle
Most of the wide players who have played in Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side have done well.
The likes of Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and even the aforementioned Almiron have all had success with Howe in charge.
The signing of Elanga, then, would have been a massive one and with his pace and power, he’d have been a fine capture.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic lauded Elanga as a great talent while at Man United and you can see why Newcastle wanted him.
Forest, then, should be admired for digging in and keeping their key man.
