Raheem Sterling is officially an Arsenal player after a frantic end to deadline day saw the Gunners snap up the England international.
Arsenal landed Sterling on loan for the season, with no obligation to buy and Arsenal are only picking up around a third of his huge £300k-a-week wages.
For the Gunners, it was crucial they added to the squad in attacking areas and Sterling will be hoping to get back to the form he showed at Man City.
For Sterling, it was vital to move on from Chelsea after he was ousted from the first-team picture.
However, it could have been so different for Sterling this summer, with a report from the Daily Mirror revealing the huge sums Sterling rejected from Saudi Arabia to make the move to Arsenal happen.
Raheem Sterling rejects more than £600k-a-week to sign for Arsenal
According to the report from The Mirror, Sterling did indeed have a huge offer on the table from Saudi Arabia.
The figures offered to Sterling are thought to be around the £650k-a-week mark and as we know over in Saudi, that is normally tax free.
Clearly, then, Sterling was pushing more to stay involved in a top team to increase his chances at international level, rather than simply chasing money.
Of course, Sterling is hardly short of a few pennies and he’ll still be paid handsomely during his time on loan with Arsenal.
Still, it’s nice to see the Saudis rejected despite the enormous money on offer.
Sterling has a point to prove
There is a lot to do for Raheem Sterling but this is a real chance to show he can be part of a squad pushing for the title again.
He will know his role is more limited and he’ll have to work hard to get starts but over a long season, there is no doubt Sterling can help Arsenal.
He scored bundles of goals at Man City by making smart runs off the ball and being found by teammates.
Mikel Arteta, then, could well be the man to get that back out of him and allow Sterling to thrive once more.
