West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen has proven a revelation for the claret-and-blue side as he scored his 100th league goal on Boxing Day.
The West Ham winger scored the winner as the Hammers beat Southampton 1-0 in their Premier League encounter at St Mary’s Stadium.
Bowen’s overall tally for West Ham now reads 222 appearances, 66 goals and 43 assists, along with 14 caps for England and one goal.
Needless to say, Bowen knows game. And on Friday, Goal.com gave him the chance to pick his favourite players before having to decide between them in a knockout-style format.
One of the stumbling blocks for Bowen came as he had to pick his favourite between Arsenal icon Thierry Henry and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney.
Jarrod Bowen picks Thierry Henry over Wayne Rooney
Bowen was asked to pick his favourite players based on their nationalities.
Ronaldo was his Brazilian pick, Lionel Messi was his choice for Argentina, Lamine Yamal is his favourite Spaniard and Cristiano Ronaldo was his Portuguese pick.
Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil got the nod for Germany, Ruud Gullit was his Dutch pick, Henry is his favourite Frenchman and Rooney was selected for England.
Then came the really tricky part as Bowen was asked to select between R9 and Messi, Yamal and CR7, Ozil and Gullit, and Henry and Rooney.
Bowen opted for Messi, CR7, Gullit and, after exclaiming “oh no”, chose Henry ahead of Rooney.
Messi then got through to Bowen’s ‘final’ along with Henry at the expense of CR7 and Gullit, before opting for the Argentina icon ahead of the French star.
Henry – Rooney comparison
Henry and Rooney are two of the best strikers in football history, never mind the Premier League.
Henry scored a total of 411 career goals and won a host of trophies including a World Cup, Euro 2000, a Champions League and five league titles.
Meanwhile, Rooney scored 366 goals for club and country and won a Champions League and five Premier League titles among a number of other club trophies.
While Henry was a better technical player, it could be argued that Rooney made more of an impact in terms of his overall effect on games.
